Cement is a binding material that is used for construction. This substance adheres to other materials and binds them together when it hardens. When mixed with fine aggregates, cement produces mortar which is used for masonry. It can also be combined with sand and gravel for the production of concrete. Cement is available in hydraulic and non-hydraulic forms. Hydraulic cement sets and becomes an adhesive when mixed with water. Non-hydraulic cement sets after reacting with carbon dioxide in the air.
