Silt is a granular material with origin from quartz and feldspar. Silt occurs as a soil when it is mixed with sand and clay. It can also occur as sediment when it is mixed in suspension with water or deposited at the bottom of a water body. Silt is a non-sticky material with a plastic feel. It has a floury feel when dry and it feels slippery when wet. Silt is often used for gardening due to its ability to reduce compaction and high level of organic matter.
